Anushka began giving film auditions in addition to her modeling. Anushka began her career as an actor in 2008 with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in the film, starring Shah Rukh Khan. She took one day to prepare for her test on screen and didn't want to make an impractical version. Later she was contracted for three films as part of the Yash Raj Films label. The film in which she starred was the young bride to a middle-aged male (the character Shah Rukh Khan was playing). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. Anushka performed with Shahid Kapoor, Vi Das Shahid Kapoor, Vir Das and Meiyang Chang in the 2010 movie "Badmash Company". The film received mixed reviews. Anushka was also seen alongside Ranveer in the film 'Band Baaja Baaraat,' where she portrayed the role of a Punjabi middle class woman who started her own business. The film received excellent reviews and was deemed a sleeper to be a success. Anushka's contract for three films at Yash Raj Films ended with Band Baaja Baaraat.
